Please join us in helping to end extreme poverty by building improved and resilient livelihoods among smallholder farmers in Rwanda.

The THRIVE (Transformed Household Resilience in Vulnerable Environments) model is a holistic approach to radically changing farming. It does this by addressing key issues needed to make the move out of extreme poverty:

  • The Empowered Worldview curriculum – helping people move from dependence and hopelessness to an understanding that they created and loved by God, and empowered to provide for themselves, their families, and their communities, and to care for all that God has made;
  • The end-to-end business systems of farming – helping people learn to make a lot more money in agriculture. We start with encouraging Savings for Transformation groups where people learn to save money together, move on to Commercial Producer Groups where farmers work together to learn better agricultural techniques and to buy and sell together for better terms and prices, and ensure access to financial services through linkages to VisionFund International;
  • Natural resource management – on the farm, helping farmers learn about conservation agriculture techniques to build healthy and resilient soils, water capture and conservation practices, and agroforestry. As a community, helping farmers reforest, manage watersheds, and rehabilitate grasslands.
  • Manage shocks, disasters, and change – support farmers to plan for and track those things that wreak havoc on farming – weather and precipitation, animal and plant diseases, changing market prices and conditions.

By helping smallholder farmers in Rwanda with these approaches and practices, we can help them provide well for their children and climb the economic ladder and leave extreme poverty behind.

Our Commitment

At World Vision, stewardship is an integral part of everything we do. In rare cases where donations exceed what is needed, or where local conditions prevent program implementation, World Vision will redirect funds to similar activities to help children and families in need.

The multiplying effect from grants and donated goods may change throughout the year on identical or similar offers due to variations in the start and end dates of donor grants and our programs.
