Family-centered and women-focused for lasting change.

The Beyond Access program is built on the conviction that empowering women and girls is the key to lifting families out of extreme poverty. By 2030, the program will empower 360,000 people across 12 countries to break the cycle of extreme poverty.

THE CHALLENGE:

Extreme poverty persists across generations because women and girls face the greatest and most systemic barriers.

• Harmful social and cultural norms, including child marriage and early pregnancy, strip women and girls of education, safety, and long-term health.
• The global water crisis steals time and opportunity, with women and girls in sub–Saharan Africa spending nearly 200 million hours each day collecting water instead of learning or earning.
• Even when time is freed, economic barriers remain. Although women make up 43% of the agricultural workforce in developing economies, millions lack access to credit, technology, and financial services needed to thrive.

OUR APPROACH:

Through intentional sequencing of the following interventions, the multi-sector approach of the Beyond Access program removes barriers to enable transformation.

• Behavior change: Our biblically based resources empower individuals and equip families and community leaders to create safe, loving homes where children can thrive.
• Water and sanitation: By providing nearby water and improved sanitation, we reduce sickness and malnutrition, free children’s time so they can attend school, and empower women to support their families.
• Economic empowerment: Through our economic empowerment program THRIVE, women form savings groups, build financial and business skills, increase productivity and profits, and access VisionFund loans to grow their enterprises.
