Honduras Child Protection

Children deserve to be safe, no matter where they live. But in the urban hubs of Honduras, violence against children is a reality outside and even inside the home.

Violence is one of the main drivers of migration from Honduras. The urban hubs of Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula are some of the most dangerous in the world. And home isn’t always a safe haven—widespread domestic violence often pushes youth to find their identity in gangs, where the heartbreaking cycle of violence will continue.

Because of the powerful influence of gangs, many urban areas are off-limits to outside organizations—unless they work with the local church. Because of our faith, the church is our oldest and closest partner. Together with the church, we reach areas other organizations can’t, addressing violence from within its deepest strongholds. From there, we work to tackle the violence that happens both inside and outside the home.

Since 2017, World Vision has been working to address the needs of vulnerable children and youth at the individual, family, community, and government levels through our child protection project in Honduras.

This project focuses on equipping children, youth, and their families to be active participants in reducing violence, creating a safer environment, and decreasing the pressure to migrate, all with the strong support of local churches.

With the help of your generous donation, together we will:

• Train children to understand their rights and to identify and report violence which is an international best practice for reducing physical, sexual, and psychological abuse.
• Strengthen families by partnering with churches to provide parents and caregivers with teaching to nurture their children and help them grow into healthy adults.
• Create safer communities by equipping communities to advocate with the government for stronger protection for children and pursue justice for those who put children in danger.

Loving and protective families and communities will be the start of a ripple effect of change that will last for generations to come.
