Devastating aftershocks of the COVID-19 crisis are putting the lives and futures of tens of millions of children at risk—in many cases hitting children and families in poverty harder than the disease itself. Already vulnerable children are now at even greater risk of hunger, malnutrition, violence, and neglect. Many face the loss of education and family income. And with overwhelmed health systems, they are more vulnerable to other preventable diseases.
Your donation will help vulnerable children worldwide who are fighting these “secondary effects” of COVID-19 by providing basics like life-saving food, child protection programs, educational support, and more. You will also help limit the spread of the virus both abroad and here in the U.S. — providing essentials like face masks and gloves for health workers; antibacterial soap, hand sanitizer, and emergency food for children and families; and health training to keep everyone safe.
Thanks to generous donors like you, World Vision has been responding since the beginning of the outbreak, meeting critical needs around the world. Today our staff are working to reach 72 million vulnerable people — including 36 million children — in over 70 countries worldwide, including the U.S.
We’re working with proven partners on the ground, including our network of 220,000 local community health workers (CHWs) and thousands of faith leaders:
- Our volunteer health workers are trained to deliver basic health services and are on the front lines of the COVID-19 response in their communities.
- We’re training faith leaders to combat fear, stigma, and misinformation, and encourage healthy, high-impact behaviors like handwashing. Our experience training 400,000 of these leaders in over 50 countries to respond to Ebola, Zika, and HIV and AIDS has shown that they can effectively lead their communities to slow the spread of disease.
Thank you for your support and your prayers: for those who are sick and quarantined, for families who’ve lost loved ones, for health workers dedicated to stopping the virus, and for children and families who are struggling with the secondary impacts of this pandemic.
At World Vision, stewardship is an integral part of everything we do. In rare cases where donations exceed what is needed, or where local conditions prevent program implementation, World Vision will redirect funds to similar activities to help children and families in need.
The multiplying effect from grants and donated goods may change throughout the year on identical or similar offers due to variations in the start and end dates of donor grants and our programs.
