As a result, crops are frequently devasted, and communities struggle with hunger and sustainable livelihoods. In response, World Vision launched tried and true economic empowerment and food security programs in Colomoncagua, including THRIVE, Biblical Empowered Worldview, Savings for Transformation, and Animal Gifts (Gift Catalog products). Juan got to participate in all of these programs. World Vision trained him in how to raise a fish farm and supported him with fingerlings and fish feed. In exchange, Juan was required to provide a pond for raising the fish. With dedication, Juan built a fishpond on his land. Today, the pond is full of golden-finned fish that provide an important source of protein and nutrition for the family and strengthened the household economy. The fish also deepened the bond between Edinson and Juan. \u201cWhen he sees me heading to the pond, he runs to help. He tells me, \u2018Grandpa, I want to feed them,\u2019 so I give him a container to feed the fish.
