Thanks for Your Gift Wendy

Pierre Faye - Posted on March 23, 2009

When the prices of food rose, it was difficult for Soukeye’s family to cope with the exponentially increasing food prices and for his parents to be able to provide food for their family (during the dry months they often times have to buy food as their stores have run out).

This year, Soukeye was blessed with a gift that allowed the family to have enough food during these tough periods. Here is story of a child, Soukeye, and her Mom, Mame Amy, expressing thanks to the sponsor who sent the gift.

“I have the pleasure to send my warmest greetings from everybody in my village. I would like to express my thanks for all you have [done] for me and my family.

My family, my neighbors and my friends are very proud of you and they join their voices to mine to thank you as well. We are praying everyday for you and your family.

With the $100, we bought one [100 lb.) bag of rice, one (100 lb.) bag of maize, ingredients for cooking, soap and clothes.

My family is very happy, because rice has become expensive in our country. We have stayed two days without seeing rice. You know, rice and fish is our favorite dish.

I have invited all my friends to eat rice and fish. I also take breakfast with bread and milk bought from your meaningful gift.

My mom also wants to say some thank you words to you. Her name is Mame Amy,” says Soukeye.

“We were in a difficult situation when we received your gift. We are farmers with limited financial resources. So, it is sometimes difficult for us to get enough rice. It was a tough time. Many shops in the village were running out of rice. Even though we struggle to find the rice [in the stores] we could not get much for the family, because of the price.

With your gift we were able to get a full bag (enough to last the family for one month). It’s so amazing.

I thank Wendy for her generosity and love towards my daughter, Soukeye. We wish you good health and a long life,” says Mame Amy.
